Fun With Network Freeloaders
I saw this article on Slashdot, and wanted to link to it here. This is great. The author’s neighbors are using his wireless network without permission. So, instead of encrypting the network he uses IP tables and Squid to serve them distorted and confusing versions of the web. Check it out.

LaTeX Under Ubuntu 6.06
Use the Synaptic Package Manager to install tetex-extras and kdvi. The package tetex-extras will install the latex base (libt1-5, tetex-base, tetex-bin, and tex-common). Read the Synaptic package descriptions carefully. I spent a lot of unnecessary time manually installing LaTeX packages that are automatically installed with tetex-extras.

Cisco VPN under Ubuntu 6.0 - 7.04
Here’s a link to a very good step-by-step on installing the Cisco VPN client under Ubuntu 6.06 (LTS) Linux.

Basically, you need to install the Linux headers for your kernel, and patch one of the Cisco provided files before installing.
